Right, I’m not saying I’ve watched the classic 1939 film, or that I’m off to a magical land of drug manufacturing… But I have in fact returned from the amazing land of Australia! Hurrah! I spent three glorious weeks there in the sunshine and if you’ve never been… Shame on you! Somewhere you must go in your lifetime! I hopefully will be returning next year 🙂
Apologies also for me not blogging for a while, it’s taken me some time to get myself in order from coming home… Yes, okay, I’ve had the holiday blues I will admit it!
Anyway, upon my travels we went to a lot of places, saw a lot of things, so I thought over the next couple of weeks I will share with you my favourite photos from the holiday 🙂
I was lucky enough to receive my shiny new Canon 5D MkII for Christmas 2012, so speedily charged this in prep for our holiday on Boxing Day… Although I forgot my battery… and charger… and scoured Heathrow and Singapore airports to find some… but to no avail… so we spent 3 days searching in oz… and hurrah!!! Although the battery and charger weren’t Canon but shops own make and universal port charger, a bit of a fiddle with the wires by my father-in-law and away we went! So here’s a WARNING!
We had a SHRIMP ON THE BARBIE! Hurrah! So… with my soon to be brother-in-laws homemade australian barbeque (forged from a metal beer barrel / keg type object), shrimp, and my camera, I set to work!
I used my Canon 5D MkII with a Canon 50mm lens, f1.8, 1/8000 (as was really sunny). I focused in on the middle-ish of the shrimp just as they were turning from raw to cooked. The subtle colours of the prawns against the hard gritty metal and black charred BBQ really makes it pop.
I considered cropping out the table salt in the background with the red top, but it just didn’t have the same look… It’s out of focus but you can still just about tell what it is! Even though the aperture was open full whack, the smoke from the BBQ helped give it an extra haze and almost shake the whole image…
Let me know what you think!
Another update coming tomorrow!
